I’m taking a break this week to recalibrate my life. Rest is part of my break.

How do I know what type of rest I need right now? My lived experience and research.

One of my favorite frameworks is the 7 Types of Rest.

According to Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith (https://www.drdaltonsmith.com/), there are seven types of rest.

🛌🧘‍♂️ Physical Rest – Passive (sleep and nap) or Active (yoga, massage, restorative)

🧠⏸️ Mental Rest – Short breaks away from work during the day and week

🌌🙏 Spiritual Rest – Connect with something bigger than you (meditate, pray, volunteer)

💬💞 Emotional Rest – Be your authentic self and share your thoughts (you may need first to find the right people to do this with)

🖥️📵 Sensory Rest – Create space in your day and week to limit stimulation, especially from all the tech, news, etc.

🧑🏾‍🤝‍ Social Rest – Make time to be around the people who fill up your cup and vice versa

🎨 🌳 Creative Rest – Find ways to surround yourself with beauty and be able to appreciate it (nature, art, flowers in your home)

There are limitless combinations and possibilities for mental wealth deposits like the 7 Types of Rest, but you have to use the ones that are right for you.

When I work with founders, we start with their overall life instead of their business. This way, founders can align their mental wealth plans with their lives.

Are You Aware?

When I was growing up, my dad told me I had friends and acquaintances. Dad called the latter your “so-called” friends.

Turns out Dad was on to something. Friends are a core component of your physical and mental health.

Friendships…real ones…can create and support the following impacts:

  • Provide social support and companionship
  • Protect against mental health issues such as depression and anxiety
  • Decrease the negative impact of stress
  • and much more.

What was the last time you had quality time with your friends?

Until next time

If I were to dedicate one newsletter issue to a challenge you are currently facing, what would that be?

When you reply, it’s me responding to messages 🙂
